UNICEF Visits FECABPA In Grand Hangar-Bonaberi

UNICEF Cameroon Nutrition Officer, Dr. Ines Lezama, was accompanied by her colleague of UNICEF Office in Dakar, Senegal during a work visit to the secretariat of the Federation of Cameroon Breastfeeding Promotion Associations, FECABPA, in Grand Hangar neighbourhood of Douala on 11th January, 2014. During the brief working session, the President of FECABPA Administrative Council, James Achanyi-Fontem, welcomed the guests, wished them a Happy New Year and presented the FECABPA secretariat before members and lactating mothers individually introduced themselves.
Journalists of Canal 2 Tv who accompanied UNICEF on the field trip conducted interviews which led to the appraisal of the mothers’ understanding of the different best breastfeeding positions. One of the members of FECABPA coached a lactating mother during the exercise.Other members used the opportunity to explain the roles they played during the last World Breastfeeding Week. The visit ended with the taking of a souvenir group photo. In a message received from Dr. Ines Lezama, she wrote: “Many thanks for the complete report of World Breastfeeding Week 2013. Appreciated the effort that you have done for organizing with success the activities. Many thanks also for the welcome in Douala. it was wonderful to meet you, your team and mothers in Grand Hangar, All the images will be diffused in tv and sound in radio. EBF, BF is a key important issue for UNICEF and having the opportunity to showcase it is great.”
In another story, the members of the “Organisation des Femmes de Mambanda (OFM)” presented New Year wishes to the PCA of FECABPA just after the visit. The women lauded the technical support received for organizing the WBW 2013 and promised to strengthen the relationship with FECABPA through greater participation in activities during 2014.
